Exhibition in memory of children who died in Ukraine opened

The exhibition 'Memorial - Lost Childhood', showing children who died during the war in Ukraine, opened in Kielce on Friday. More than 20 panels describe the stories of the youngest victims of Russian attacks.

The story of the fate of children who perished beyond our eastern border is told in the exhibition 'Memorial - Lost Childhood' unveiled on Friday in Kielce. The exhibition presents 22 stories of children and their families who were killed in Ukraine. The exhibition was set up at the initiative of the Association Integration Europe-East .

"With this exhibition we want to show that such tragedies happen all the time in Ukraine, we also want to remember those innocent victims of the war," said the association's president Krzysztof Kalita.

"We see in Poland these days slogans proclaiming that what is happening in Ukraine is not our war. Someone is financing it and has a purpose in it. For all those who are shouting, "it's not our war", I would like to say that the same murderers from Russia who killed children in Ukraine would do it in our country." - he said.

"The only people who are entitled to say that this is not their war are the children. War is a terrible, tragic game of adults. Children are innocent of anything. That is why this war is ours too, it is a tragedy of nations and a failure of humanity. I believe in the victory of Ukraine, that this madness will be stopped and there will never be a need for such galleries again," he stressed.

The exhibition was created with the help of the Memorial platform (www.victims.memorial), which tells the stories of killed defenders and civilians every day to record the names of all those killed by Russia.

"The latest figures show that more than 500 children have been killed in Ukraine, these are the innocent victims of the war. They will never hug their mothers or go to school again. We need to remember them to prevent such wars from happening in the world in the future," - said Yuliia Shvydka a volunteer of the association and initiator of the exhibition.

The exhibition was revealed at the Kielce Promotion Point at Kielce Bus Station. "We realised that war is not a sprint but a marathon. We want it all to end, because then the rebuilding will begin, but it will not bring back the lives of the little ones," said the president of Kielce, Bogdan Wenta, while thanking the citizens for the help given to the refugees.

As part of the commemoration of the victims of the war, the city of Kielce together with organisations, associations and cultural institutions has planned a number of other events including meetings with women, witnesses of the events in Ukraine, film screenings and concerts. (PAP)
